Best Dog Friendly Beaches In The UK
If it’s beaches you're after, we strongly recommend you visit thebeachguide.co.uk . Their dog friendly travel section helps you navigate the rules and regulations of the UK coastline so that you and your four-legged pal can feel the sand between your toes.
Here are a few of our favourites dog-friendly beaches, including some that are less than 2 hours from London:
- Camber Sands, East Sussex: Located about two hours from London, Camber Sands offers a stunning beach with expansive sands for your dog to roam and play.
- West Wittering Beach, West Sussex: Known for its clear waters and beautiful sandy beach, West Wittering Beach is dog-friendly year-round. It's approximately a two-hour drive from London.
- Croyde Bay, North Devon: Croyde Bay is a picturesque beach with rolling sand dunes and great surf. Dogs are welcome on certain sections of the beach, but it's advisable to check the local restrictions before visiting.
- Holkham Beach, Norfolk: Holkham Beach is a vast stretch of golden sand backed by sand dunes and pine forests. It's a fantastic place to take your dog for long walks and playtime.

- Durdle Door Beach, Dorset: While dogs are restricted on the main beach during the summer months, you can still take them to nearby Man O'War Beach and Durdle Door Beach outside of the peak season. The iconic Durdle Door arch makes for a breathtaking backdrop.
- Southend-on-Sea, Essex: If you prefer a beach closer to London, Southend-on-Sea is an easily accessible option. Dogs are allowed on designated areas of the beach, and the vibrant seaside atmosphere adds to the charm.
- Mersea Island, Essex: Located near Colchester, Mersea Island has several dog-friendly beaches where your canine companion can run freely and enjoy the coastal surroundings.
Remember to always check local regulations and any seasonal restrictions before heading to a dog-friendly beach. Additionally, it's important to clean up after your dog and keep them under control to ensure a pleasant experience for everyone.
Best Dog Friendly Heritage Spots In The UK
A favourite amongst the Caboodle HQ dogs, English Heritage locations are generally dog friendly, and a great place for dogs and their owners to enjoy a walk against stunning historical backdrops.
Here are some of our favourites.
- Whitby Abbey, North Yorkshire
- Tintagel Castle, Cornwall
- Marble Hill, London
- Audley End House & Gardens, Essex
- Kenilworth Castle, Warwickshire
If you like your heritage to include a more manicured garden and country house, be sure to check out The National Trust.
Although many National Trusts don’t allow dogs inside their historic buildings, most do allow dogs on parts of their grounds, providing they are kept on the lead and you clear up after them!
There are too many to choose from, but one of our favourites is Dunster Castle, Somerset. It’s perfect for Instagram-worthy dog pictures, breath-taking gardens, and a fascinating watermill with a great tea room.
